Working Towards Finding My Niche – Part 1

LIFESTYLE

There is so much talk about in the realms of having a niche whether this is on Instagram or within your blogging, video work and I get it. You get known for what you do. This also works with so many other trades. If you want to find an accountant you type it into the search engine, to niche it even more you type in the area where you live. It makes complete sense. But it can also be difficult in finding your niche.

It brings me back to a chat with my family I had a while back. Imagine being that one kid in a hundred that knew exactly what they wanted to be when they grew up. And doing it. And actually enjoying it for their whole career. That notion simply amazes me. It also amazes me that I haven’t met anyone in my life that has done just that.

People, as people do, evolve. They also aren’t just ONE thing. People are a range of things and enjoy multiple aspects of life so it becomes difficult (and where I have especially found it hard) to choose just one of the many things that makes up a varied life.

There are many bloggers that clearly define themselves and their content and have found what they love to speak about. Travel Bloggers are one of these niches. They experience, educate and entertain their audiences with places they have visited and even when they are spending time at home they are writing about places they would love to visit or ‘how to plan a trip to …’ or ‘what to pack on a trip to…’ Similarly, book bloggers. I have seen many where their Instagram pages are full of beautifully full book shelves or inspirational quotes from characters. They know what their interest is and they run with it.

WHY DO I NEED A NICHE?

Too right, why? Why should I feel the need to only write about one or two topics? Why can’t I write about everything that I enjoy? Well I could but it wouldn’t grow in the same way. Why should someone keep returning to see what I have written when they don’t know what to expect? I wouldn’t want to visit a travel company website and find that they’re talking about the latest fashion trend or a type of pet food. You want to know that wherever you are going you know what you’re going for. That way whatever mood you are in or if you want a certain piece of information, boom, you’re in the right place.

It also links to that good old saying ‘jack of all trades and master of none’.

So, How Am I Finding and Narrowing My Niche?

I couldn’t decide what I wanted my niche to be so I made like the true Virgo I am and wrote a list. It went like this;

  • Renovating our first home
  • Mia our chocolate labrador
  • Disney, the brand and holidays
  • Reading books and reviewing
  • Fitness, health and wellbeing
  • High end and luxury clothes, style
  • Skincare and beauty products
  • Travelling to beautiful destinations
  • Visiting places in the UK
  • Arts and crafts
  • Spa visits, reviews and skincare brands

That’s a LOT of things to talk about right? It would also be a lot of information to sift through when trying to find the blog post that you want to read and while everyone is out there having aesthetically pleasing Instagram grids mine would be like an explosion in a paint factory (and not in a good way). I’m leaving it there for now but Part 2 will be up soon!

Replanning Our Disney Holiday

Disney Diary, TRAVEL

If you are new around here you may not be aware that our Walt Disney World Holiday was cancelled due to the current circumstances. We completely agree that safety is of prime importance but I am also looking forward to replanning our Disney holiday and being there in the next year or so, whenever we are able and it is safe to do so.

Our previously planned trip included:

• Disney tickets for 14 days

• Staying off site near Universal

We were just about to book Universal Tickets before everything closed and were unsure of what may or may not be cancelled for a while.

Since Walt Disney World stated its temporary closure and then our holiday provider cancelled our holiday altogether we have been adding, changing and researching what we can’t miss and what we would love to experience on our future Florida holiday.

We have changed our plans slightly for when we rebook and this now includes staying on site in a Disney hotel. My main decision sway-ers on this were,

• Disney Magic even when you go to bed

• Extra Magic Hours

• Booking reservations and FastPass sooner

• Transport will be easier to get into the parks

• Dining plan availability

With all this in mind we decided that the price difference would be worth the extras that are available through staying on site.

I have located a few prices with different companies but due to our previous holiday provider we are unable to rebook just yet. This gives me plenty of time to find the best price offering the best package.

Once we have the holiday booked we shall keep you updated as to finalising plans and making restaurant reservations along with what FastPass is the most popular and what snacks we need to be sampling.

I am very much looking forward to the whole process and this time (without any disasters please) enjoying our Walt Disney World holiday.

Planning Our Next Trip – To Where?

TRAVEL, UK Places

I’ll start this post by saying our ‘next trip’ would have been Walt Disney World Florida and I have written plenty about that here. It is unfortunate that we can’t go as planned but we aren’t the only ones and it is for the best at this time. That does not stop us from planning our future Disney trip and plenty of others that we would love to do too.

For the last two years we have enjoyed a Winter holiday with our friends and their adorable cockapoo, Ares. At first we spent our time in Yurts in the Lake District with the second in a hotel in the Cotswolds. These breaks (as they would with dogs) are largely spent on walks or in dog friendly pubs. As the world might be back travelling come Autumn/Winter a dog friendly break will be more than welcome. I would love to see Scotland or even get on the channel tunnel and head to France depending on when and cost.

If we are not able to safely travel until next year then we will definitely be thinking about rebooking our Florida holiday. This will depend on Disney’s most popular times, (we wouldn’t want to pick a highly popular date) holidays available at work and how much flights and hotels will be in the new year.

Travelling in Derbyshire

I already know my husband really wants to get back to the Lake District. He’s a walking kinda guy and misses the great outdoors after a while. Before we drop a lot of money on a bigger holiday we may have to plan a weekend break up in the Lakes to involve plenty of walks, fresh air and good food.

This also goes for the Peak District. We are lucky enough to live within a couple of hours drive of the Peak District so this will be a day trip for us, most likely on the motorbike as it will need a run after being stood for so long.

That is it for now. From the above we have possible trip ideas for a day, a weekend, a week and a fortnight. When all this is over we will hopefully be healthy and in a position to travel again to one (or all) of the options above.

Do you have any travel wish lists?

How I’m Still ‘Travel Blogging’ From Home

TRAVEL, UK Places

Travel blogging from home, what does that look like, what does it mean? Well, it means that I’m making all the plans and locating all of the best spots and it looks like me but sat down at my kitchen table (probably my new favourite spot) rather than be out and in it. Don’t get me wrong being out and immersed in it is my preference but in these times and with the current worldwide situation that is just not possible.

With this in mind I have created a list of places I would love to visit and a detailed plan of what I would do whilst I am there, you know, if I can go in the future. I will be posting one of these per day alongside any usual content that I’ve planned.

Walks in Derbyshire
Millers Dale and Chee Dale walk in Derbyshire

There is also a lot of content from trips and experiences that I have never written about. Memories in my head and photos stored away. They can all come out and be shown the light of day if there is a nationwide lockdown.

As well as planning to the nth degree I will also be taking the pooch out when and where possible whilst always keeping that social and safe distance and getting in the garden as much as possible. And you never know there is always a little lifestyle blogging that I could do.

If you want to catch up on some Days Out or Short Breaks, feel free.

So that’s it. The ways I am planning on still being a travel blogger and not actually doing the travelling part. More the travelled or wishful traveller.

Until next time,

Planning Our Florida Trip

Disney Diary, TRAVEL

This post contains affiliate links.

It’s no secret that I am super excited to be heading to Florida this Spring. It was my Christmas present from my husband last year who booked us flights, hotel and our Disney tickets. He packaged the booking confirmation up surrounded by Disney pj’s, mouse ears and in a Disney holdall, it was perfect and I thought they were my presents to begin with but nope, a holiday to boot.

There were a few things I needed to book when it was passed to me but the majority had been arranged and I was happy with that (I’m not the worlds best holiday planner!)

One thing left to organise being our tickets to Universal. I couldn’t go to Florida and be in Orlando without visiting Universal and the Harry Potter attractions. I visited the Harry Potter studios in London a few years ago (before all of the updates and more) and enjoyed that so I am very excited to see a whole replica of magic. Now I just have to catch my husband up on all of the films, it’ll only take a few *days* surely.

Of course being the money saving, budget analysing person that I am I had to do my research before jumping into a sale. I had heard of Attraction Tickets just before Christmas and thankfully had only heard good things. They can provide tickets to the major theme parks including Disney, Universal and even the Kennedy Space Center which is where we are also hoping to visit. After a bit of searching online Attraction Tickets were also the best value for money for the whole two weeks. At the time of publishing the tickets priced at £278 per person, the deal being that adult tickets cost the same as a child ticket. This also included the three Universal parks which is great because my husband is very excited about the water parks whilst we are away. I keep telling myself that the water slides won’t be as scary as rollercoasters but we will find out when we get there I guess!

The other things that we have left to book are our ride fast passes and restaurant reservations so if you’ve got any recommendations of places we must go let us know and I will add it to my Disney checklist.

Until next time,

Starting a Mindful Routine

LIFESTYLE, Wellbeing

In a couple of weeks I’m going to be able to find my own routine. For a long while I’ve not been in a position where I have been able to say ‘I will do this every day’ or ‘I will attend this class every week’. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you see it) I am a creature of habit and need some form of routine even if this is just at the beginning of the week or having something to look forward to at the end of the week. My mental health has taken a decline over the past few months and this comes in early forms of anxiety and self neglect and I am confident that some form of routine and dedicated time for ‘self care’ will help as well as counselling time. In a few days time I can happily say I will be able to do this so I have been planning a routine and collating the things that I have so far found helps me.

1. Meditation. It’s not all ‘ummm-ing’ and ‘ahhh-ing’ and I use it to take a moment to get back to grips with how my body feels and to get my brain back to focusing. I use the Headspace app for when I need a guided meditation and have also practiced a couple of tips for when I need to take a minute out and about.

2. Exercise. I know it sounds like such a cliche but it works for me and others I have spoken to. For that session I am focused on my workout and the music I’m listening to and there’s a lot to be said for the link between science and hormones. A work routine will allow me to say I will attend a Pilates, Aqua or Yoga session at the same time every week, meet people, get fit, stay focused for that time and get an endorphin buzz.

3. Bath and a book. Reading has always been a form of relaxation for me and getting into a warm bath knowing that that time is going to be spent taking a moment for me is something I can look forward to at the end of a busy week (or on a grey Monday/hump Wednesday or any other time I wanted to plan it in).

4. Dog walking. Taking a breath of fresh air, stretching my legs and knowing I have done something that the pooch will also love makes me very happy. Mia gets me outside, maybe saying hello to another human being/another dog and I come back from a walk feeling refreshed and motivated to keep going rather than sitting, procrastinating or just pottering with no real intention around the house.

A couple of other things I intend to add to this list is more financial management and sitting down on a Sunday evening and planning the week ahead to include workouts, meals and quality time with my husband. I’ll keep a track of my mood and experiences and check in over the next few months. If you have any tips or experience of your own to add please get in touch either here or over on Instagram.

Until next time,

Disney Planning – Making a checklist

Disney Diary, TRAVEL

As you may or may not know we myself and the hubs are going to Walt Disney World in Spring this year. With January gone the holiday is slowly creeping up on us and before we know it it’ll be time to go and I won’t have prepared anything. Side note: On two occasions now I have found myself in the queue to board a plane and have been purchasing travel insurance, I know right.

This time it has to change as our holiday to Florida is a. more expensive b. not part of europe for medical care and c. further away if anything was to happen. Hence why we need travel insurance as soon as possible and why I am making this list where it will be top priority.

  1. Travel Insurance. For all the reasons above.
  2. Visa. We can do this up until 72 hours before we go but the sooner it’s ticked the better.
  3. FastPass booking. Because we are staying offsite we can do this 30 days before and organise our days.
  4. Restaurant planning. Again so we can organise our days to get the max amount of time enjoying ourselves and not choosing where to eat for an hour, yes I can get hangry.
  5. Packing. Clothes, shoes, toiletries. You name it I will have to make a list for it before I end up in Florida heat wearing jeans and a hoody because I don’t have enough shorts and need to go shopping.
  6. Hand luggage organisation. To include all documents, tech, plane entertainment and anything I tend to pick up leaving the house.

If you are a seasoned Disney-goer and notice that I have missed something let me know. We want to make as much of our two weeks as humanly possible and need to remember all the important bits too so add them below or get in touch on Instagram/email.

Until next time,
